After a weekend dedicated mostly to myself, the hubby got to choose where to eat for Valentine’s Day.
Of course I knew exactly where the hubby would want to eat: Salt Lick Bar-B-Que. The Salt Lick has been featured on numerous Food Network Programs, and is somewhat legendary down here.
This place was in the middle of nowhere (Driftwood, TX 20 minutes outside Austin). The parking lot was huge!
Warning: Lots of Meat Ahead, Vegans beware!
Sorry these are blurry, I have no idea why.
I ordered the Turkey Sandwich. It was really about the only thing that wasn’t some form of red meat or ribs. As with all real BBQ joints, their vegetables consisted of cole slaw, potato salad, and beans. I will never understand who considers that vegetables, but whatever this was for the hubby!
It was rustic. It was honestly a cute little (huge) place. We were seated out on the screened-in porch with a pond/waterfall right outside. Jordan spent a long time making his food decision.
He ended up choosing some type of rib. I am honestly unsure and didn’t even know there were different kinds of ribs. Notice the “vegetable” sides.
Here is my turkey sandwich. Literally the size of my head with 3 sides for 8 bucks. Not too shabby price-wise. The turkey was actually really good. It had a nice smokey flavor and some peppery-zing to it. I ate about half of my sandwich. I also actually enjoyed the sidse, although I by no means considered them vegetables. The cole slaw was NOT made with mayo! Actually there was hardly any dressing to it, just a light vinaigrette with sesame seeds. It was mainly cabbage, so I ate it all!
The potato salad wasn’t too bad either, again no mayo. It was some sort of spicy mustard base.
Overall, it was good and I was able to find something on the menu to eat. (There have been times when we stop at these hole-in-the-wall BBQ joints and the only thing I eat is a piece of bread or granola bars from my purse).
The place was fairly impressive and I love getting to try any place featured on Food Network:
