Makeup Routine & A Giveaway

Uncategorized

I already know what you are thinking just from reading the title of this post….

Why are you giving makeup advice when we know you look like this all the time???

Good question!!!!  I have no good answer.  But, about once a month (or so) I clean myself up and put on makeup.  I don’t do my hair…lets not get carried away here! Anyway, I have a very basic make up routine that works for me for just about any event.

A Busy, Law Student, Endurance Runner, Twenty-Something’s Makeup Routine

  • Foundation. I actually didn’t start using foundation until about two years ago.  I used to tan a lot (I know the health concerns) and my complexion was great, now that I have stopped all the imperfections are visible.  I do realize that tanning might have caused some of these but it is more likely the massive stress breakouts I get from law school.  Anyway, I now use Maybelline Mineral Powder in Pure Beige. I chose this particular foundation because I can’t stand how cakey liquids can be and because this color matches my skin tone perfectly!

  • Mascara! Mascara can make even a law student on the day of their last final look better.  I use an eyelash curler than apply 1-2 coats of mascara to make my blue eyes pop or at least not look sleep deprived.

I have yet to find THE MASCARA! You know the one you rave to all your friends about when they are getting ready for a special occasion.  The one you make an emergency shopping trip on the slight chance you might run out.

Here are some of the other mascaras I have tried:

Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion. Okay, not spectacular.  Didn’t give me as much volume as original Lash Blast.

CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Blasting. I used this mascara for quite some time, even at my wedding!  I have pretty long eyelashes already so I really like the volume formulas that pump them up.

CoverGirl Lash Exact. This is definitely not a volume mascara but it does do what it claims.  No clumps!  It creates simple, defined lashes.  Great for everyday, not exactly the wow factor.

**I must be easily persuaded by those CoverGirl commercials because it appears they get my money!

I recently bought two new mascaras to try and both of them came in a double pack meaning that I have two mascaras to giveaway!

  • Maybelline:  Great Lash BIG: I bought this stuff because I love the original Great Lash mascara!  The original is perfect for everyday with no clumping whatsoever.  Since I want to pump up my lashes for special things I thought I would give this one a try.  It is a great mascara, no clumps, but it didn’t give me the volume results I wanted.

Mascara Giveaway

To win both of the mascaras above please leave me a comment telling me your favorite mascara!

Winner will be announced Friday January 28th.

  1. I love Loreal Waterproof Lash Out Mascara. I’ve been using it for years!

i love loreal voluminious mascara! ive been using it for about 15 years. ive tried other brands, all the time, but i always come back to that one. ive found that if it gets too gloppy or clumpy then you can hold the closed tube under a stream of hot water from your sink and it will make it all smooth again :)

I was recently given Sephora mascara. I love it! It voluminizes and looks great at night! It clumps a little but I read in a magazine to first hold the brush so that it hits one lash at a time then bring it to the normal position and get the clumps off.

  4. I love mascara and have devoted many dollars to finding the perfect one. I have pretty long eyelashes, but they are not very thick.

    I like:
    1) Covergirl Lash Exact (I think. in the yellow tube). It is really really great for length. I’ve tried the volume formula-orange tube-and it isn’t as good.
    2) I like Voluminous a lot…but, I think it is better after it is about half used. It is too gloopy when it is brand new and full. I wipe a bunch off the brush when I use it.
    3) Benefit BadGal-love this. Giant brush like Voluminous, not gloopy at all. Right now I use the CG first for length and the BadGal next for volume (I’m not nearly as high maintenance as that sounds, I swear!)
    4) I also like Diorshow mascara, but I don’t think it is worth the price.

Also, the She Uemura eyelash curler is amazing and totally worth the money. I held out on it a long time, but it is fantastic.

I have been using Dior “diorshow” waterproof mascara. It is an AMAZING mascara, it never runs and it gives me the biggest lashes! :)

I have gone through a lot of mascaras, and I have been lucky enough to find “the one”. I will ONLY ever use the Loreal Double Extend (in the maroon tube). It seriously makes your lashes ten feet long, plus when you want to take it off, a wash cloth with warm water makes them “pop off” (exactly like the commercial says). Because if I use regular mascara, no matter what make up remover I use or how long I attempt to take it off, I always end up with 1) morning after circles and 2) lash breakage. The double extend is a God send. Love it!!

I love Maybelline’s Great Lash in royal blue. It is so fun to add a little pop of barely noticeable color to your eye lashes. I have heard FANTASTIC things about Givenchy’s mascara that comes with a ball shaped applicator. bIt is pricey, but is apparently worth it.

Colossal is by far my favorite!

I’ve tried a lot of different mascara, but love the DiorShow (not waterproof) mascara best. It’s definitely a splurge, but I think it’s worth it.
