If I was within 1,000 miles of a beach….

Uncategorized

I would totally be throwing these babies in my beach bag with a water bottle full of tequila.  These Target Brand Sugar Free Lime Margarita single size drink mixes are pretty awesome.  These are also a great way to watch your calories and still enjoy summer parties.  Throw a couple in your purse that way you can just mix them into your spirit of choice and shave a lot of calories off traditional mixers.

Is it the best margarita mix ever?  No

Is it cheap? Yep

Is it convenient?  Yep

So there you go.

The Thing About Me Is…

Uncategorized

I give it to you straight.  My friends know not to ask for my opinion unless they really want my honest opinion. I say this because my hubby asked me to look over his resume.  I have taken entire courses on resumes/job searching/etc and clear, concise writing is kind of the entire objective of law school…thus I have my own opinions on what should and should not be a resume.  Anyway, it took all about 3 minutes for me to recommend a change and for my hubby to tell me it was fine how it was.  Ahh…..men.

Moral of the story:  Don’t ask me what I think unless you really want to the answer.

Moving on….

I mixed up my outfit for court yesterday.  Believe it or not…wearing anything but solid black or navy is  considered mixing it up in a Texas courtroom.  I really like the back of this skirt with the extra detail.  (Trooper wants to see what I am doing obviously)

The skirt is more of a mermaid shape so it is a nice change from the pencil skirt.  As you can tell from the photo the later in the semester the less I care about doing my hair or wearing makeup.  (I love the look on Trooper’s face in this picture)

Yesterday started off really rocky…clearly the mixed outfit is not good luck.  Without violating confidentiality let me just say that one of my parties had a medical emergency in the middle of my mediation.  Needless to say I came home and numbed my stress levels with trashy TV and this yummy yogurt & caramel dessert bowl.

As part of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program I received some of the new line of Tostitos Artisan Recipe chips in the mail this week.  My friend was having a little girls night get together last night so it was the perfect opportunity to try the Fire Roasted Chipotle flavor.

The Good:

  • Flavor!  They had a slightly smoky hint of flavor
  • Spice level!  I was afraid they would be too spicy for me but they weren’t hot at all

The Less than Good:

  • They looked too much like Doritos.  I wish they had been a different shape.  (Silly, I know)

Overall: I would recommend!

Happy 3 Day Weekend!

Uncategorized

Happy 3 Day Weekend to everyone!  As a Hoosier Memorial Day weekend meant Indy 500 weekend.  For a long time it meant opening weekend because I worked at a pool for 6 years.  This year it means I get to spend an extra day with the hubby and am heading to the beach.  Despite all of our plans for the weekend please remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and take a moment of silence to remember all of those who have served our country.

Happy Memorial Day to all those who protect and serve our country.

Food

I actually managed to photograph most of my food yesterday!  I warn the photos are crappy–I have some light bulbs out and the construction workers have our windows covered so my apartment is about as bright as a basement without windows.

For some reason I have been eating breakfast for every meal of the day.  Lunch rolled around and all I wanted was cereal…with lots of berries of course!

On the side some toasted sandwich thins with jelly and sweet potato butter (gold).

After lunch I got my butt kicked my Insanity.  Then I passed out on the couch and took a lovely afternoon catnap.  Aren’t afternoon catnaps the best?

After Jordan got home from work we headed out to put some miles on the bikes.  I did about 9 1/2 miles before my legs were screaming for rest!  I obliged.

Since it is a holiday weekend I decided to break into one of the bottles of wine we bought while in Fredericksburg.

Since I am classy and lazy I enjoyed my wine with a Subway sandwich and carrots.  This was the new chicken salad sandwich- I liked it even though I am not a huge mayo-based-anything fan.

I also ate about half a box  these Ritz cracker-pretzel things.  After about 4 handfuls I figured out they tasted weird because I had bought the sour cream and onion instead of original.  One week back at school and my brain is fried!  These things are strange and yet your find yourself reaching for another handful.  I think I would like the original better.

Trooper thought the box doubled as a pillow obviously.

After dinner we watched It’s Complicated and I enjoyed 1 actual serving (1/2 cup) of soy ice cream.  It may be the first time in my life I ate the actual serving size.

Weekend Plans

I am about to conquer my Insanity workout for the day then we are heading to the beach with some fellow Purdue alums!  I hope to be back later tonight to post!  Hope everyone has a great start to the weekend!    In case you need something to brighten your day:  I will be announcing a Summer Kickoff giveaway on Monday!

Leg Overload

Uncategorized

My legs are very tired.  Very, very tired.  I had Insanity around lunch then a 10.5 mile bike ride with the hubby after work.  I sure hope I can walk tomorrow since I am going to a late birthday dinner (gotta have my Tex-Mex).

At some point during my finals I won a giveaway over at Whit’s Getting Fit . My Thriv performance t-shirt arrived last week and  I decided that a 90 degree, sunny afternoon would be a perfect time to test it out.

I won’t lie; I was skeptical.  The shirt is made from bamboo and is supposed to wick moisture and perform.  But perform in the afternoon Houston sun?  That is a serious challenge.

Bonus:  the shirt matched my bike!

First impression:  The material felt great and was super light.  It also had a great fit!  It is really hard to find shirts that fit my body, so I was impressed with this one.  The shirt was slim enough to fit, yet cut long enough to actually workout in.

Results:  Loved it!  I was sweaty but didn’t feel gross.  The shirt was a lot more breathable than I expected given that it looks like a normal t-shirt.

Looks like I might be splurging on some new workout shirts!

Do you have a favorite workout shirt brand?  I am always looking for things that perform in this heat.

Final numero uno is done.  I have three more this week and one next Tuesday.  Law school is definitely not for the weak of heart, or mind and body for that matter.  I typed the entire 3 hours as fast as I could and didn’t finish (you rarely do on these exams).  I cannot even begin to describe how draining the experience is. I was also dealt a hand of family issues this weekend, so I wasn’t as prepared for this exam as I should have been…ugh.  While I am venting I will share with you that after my exam, I got in the car-my hubby picks me up- to hear him say ” I did something you aren’t going to like.”  Seriously?  Right now?  3 minutes after 3 hour brain tug-of-war match? Ugh.  Needless to say good ol’ Jordan is in the doghouse until further notice.  Lucky for him our dog sleeps on the bed so he can too, haha.

Okay enough ranting, food time:

Breakfast/snack of choice lately is a GM in a bowl.  I also drink it like a giant coffee cup just to be cool.

Life has included a lot of wraps and salads.  Aka it takes me less than 5 minutes to throw a bunch of stuff together.

As if knowing he was going to do something dumb, the hubby made me angel food cupcakes this weekend.  We figured each little guy has about 60 calories–hello guilt free dessert!  (Confession:  I eat these in twos).

Click is an espresso and protein drink powder mix.  Some quick stats:  Double shot espresso, 15 g protein, and 120 calories.

The Click people also sent me a nice little shaker because all protein drinks are better shaken.   I followed the package directions:  water, add mix, shake.  Pour over ice (in my case put ice cubes into shaker)

Results:  This drink was a really nice surprise.  It tasted like an iced coffee drink that just happens to be full of protein, vitamins, and minerals.  I probably couldn’t have received these samples at a better time:  I am always in need of a coffee fix lately.

The Goods:  taste was great and it was nice to have a double duty drink.  I could definitely drink this after an early morning gym trip.

The Bads:  As with all protein there was a bit of mixing issues.  Luckily you don’t really notice it until the end of the glass.

Would I buy?  Yep.  The hubby liked it too.  I am excited to try the vanilla latte flavor.

Happy Tuesday all!  The rest of the week will likely be guest posts.  My brain will not be functioning enough to create words.

Desk Legs Are Not Running Legs

Uncategorized

The weather was absolutely beautiful yesterday I am told (damn you Mother Nature) so the hubby wanted to go for a run after dinner.  I decided to peel myself from my desk chair and join him.  Sitting at a desk from 7am to 7pm does not do good things to the legs.  My entire body hurt to run and my legs felt like cement blocks were attached.  I drug my exhausted self 2.21 miles and called it quits.  It looks like I will have to work my butt off to get back to where I was endurance wise.

Breakfast this morning was out of the ordinary for me (i.e. not a GM or oats).

I found this lonely english muffin in the back of the pantry and figured I should probably eat it.  I filled it in with 1/4th cup egg beaters and strawberry jam.  (Love the savory/sweet combo).  On the side I ate a few strawberries and slices of banana.  It was nice to change up breakfast but I am worried it won’t keep me full as long!

I also used a Dunkin Donuts coffee sample I received in the mail the other day.  I have never actually been to a Dunkin Donuts before.  There weren’t any where I grew up and the only ones I know of here are in real shady parts of the Loop.

Results:  It smelled pretty darn good, but I was not very impressed with taste.  I blame that on my snobby fresh ground Central Market coffee habit.  A lot of the bloggers I read swear by their iced coffee, so maybe one day.

Here is a review of my Monday:

I sat here all day.  Literally.  I was in the chair shortly after 6am and didn’t get out until our run at 7pm.  Sadly, this is pretty organized as far as my desk area goes.  (And yes, I make piles and know exactly what each one is for)

Survival kit.

Lunch.  Joseph’s Lavash wrap (you must try these!), hummus, veggies, veggies on the side, and pita chips (x about 5 more servings as snacks).

Dinner.  Cereal, strawberries, bananas, and lots of cinnamon.  Yes, I drink iced coffee with dinner.  I also had an unpictured protein cake after my run.

That is it folks.  I still have class today and tomorrow (don’t even get me started on that topic) and more to cram into my brain than humanly possible.

Fun fact: I now drink coffee like I take tequila shots:  fast and in multiples.

P.S. I finally updated my About Me page, so check it out if you feel so inclined.

Product Review

Uncategorized

Well I forgot my camera at home, have a ton of work in between classes, and am going to try and get in my 2 hour run after my night class.  Probably a bad idea I know.  In case I fall asleep running (haha) and don’t post late tonight here is a product review:

Product Review

Anytime my run hits an hour or more I must bring something to fuel with!  This girl gets hungry!  My go-to product is Cliff blocks.  I like the texture and they seem to give me just enough to keep going.  (I always cut them in half because that block seems huge to me!)  I also use the Jelly Belly Beans on occasion.

While at the running store we decided to sample a couple different products, so here are our reviews: (The hubby helped)

GU Energy Gel-Tri Berry

My husband used this product on our 15k “race run”.  I sampled a small taste as well.  I did not like the texture at all.  Actually I could barely force myself to swallow the little taste I had.

The hubby’s use:

Taste:  He wasn’t not exactly impressed by the flavor, but not disgusted either.  More of a neutral.

Texture:  He was in the same boat as myself.  He was very unhappy with the texture and was forcing himself to swallow as well.  It was just a little bit unexpected, although this could be because we are used to Cliff Blocks.

Performance:  He was impressed with the performance.  He finished up strong and felt that it gave him a little extra energy to push up the speed.

Overall:  Liked the performance, couldn’t stand the texture.  Not likely to purchase again.

If anyone regularly uses GU, is it just an acquired texture?  Do you like it?

Power Bar Energy Gel Blasts-Raspberry

These were recommended to me by a fellow runner at the store.  I used these on a Tuesday after 12 hours of school before my run because I needed to fuel and dinner wasn’t coming until after the run.

Taste:  The package said raspberry, but the minute I opened it the entire car smelled of bananas.  Luckily, I like bananas so there was no worry.  The outside tasted a lot like a fruit snack, just a little less sweet.  The inside gel reminded me of Gushers.  I liked the taste, it was a nice and fruity.

Texture:  The outside was a lot tougher than I expected.  It was almost a rough texture.  I actually didn’t mind because I usually kind of suck on these like a piece of candy and let them melt a bit.  The inside gel was expected.  (They were a little hard to bite threw)

Performance:  I haven’t use these on a long run yet, but they did give me the energy to crank out a run after 11 hours of school and no dinner.

Overall:  I was slightly bothered the package said good source of Vit C and then the nutritional information said 10%.  Is 10% a good source?  I liked them overall, but they were a bit pricey.  I would probably buy again.

If anyone has tried these products I would love to hear what you think.
